337
337
Have installed a C-85-8 in my 1941 CA. Already had 337's but the "mechanic" lost all logs for plane. All the way back to factory test flight!!! Anyway, I need more copies of 337's for installed C-85 in a pre-war chief if anyone has one. Also need correct airbox for carb. If anyone needs a Stromberg carb I have one for sale. Thanks

Teecart,
It seems to me B Pancake had a 337 for a 85-8 in a 65CA. I spoke with him quite a while ago and he mentioned something about that. I am rebuilding a 65LB (conv to continental) and have thought about going the 85 route, but they are a king's ransom.
Your mechanic 'lost' all the logs???
I would think you could shoot him legally for that and not get put in jail. I would be fit to be tied.

Logbooks are easy to lose. Make sure you get them back from the mechanic immediately after maintenance. A lot of mechanics like to keep them. When they die or go bankrupt, you lose.
My buddy left me a Cherokee. Full logs since manufacture - we had them the last annual before his death. They are now lost - possibly forever. Knocked ten grand off the value of that bird.
And yeah - good luck on that field approval. You might want to look for the pre- 1955 version, and get a copy. They are approved data.
Here is a link to the latest - note that in some paragraphs, they clearly state that the ASI must tell you in writing why they will not approve your 337 request.

At last years IA Renewal class, we were told the FAA was setting up several DARs to approve field approvals. Probably be expenses but may have better luck.
