BasicMed is Here
BasicMed is Here
Got to solo today in planes that I owned and had on leaseback, but had not been able to fly for a number of years. Can finally fly the Aeronca Sedan on floats that I am in partnership on.

Re: BasicMed is Here
Congratulations Robert! I have several friends that have been sitting on the sidelines for up to ten years and are now taking advantage of the opportunity to fly again.

Re: BasicMed is Here
It was a much painless process than I thought it would be, but it was a more exhaustive physical than any of my past First Class ones were.

Re: BasicMed is Here
Friend of mine 88-89 years old took his basic med. He is also an excellent pilot and you would not think he is that old. I'm up for regular physical in July (age 77) so think I'll go ahead and do the paperwork.
Re: BasicMed is Here
I have some friends that had to go to more than one doctor though before one would sign something like this. Make sure you print out the Physician Guide and give it to your doctor. It will help convince them that the criteria is pretty straight forward and the examinations are not rigorous. Finding a doctor that flies is a big help. My main one is a student of mine.

Re: BasicMed is Here
I scheduled my annual checkup/blood test for May 2 plus I "preadvised" my doctor of the coming BasicMed. It was a cake walk.

Re: BasicMed is Here
Congrats Dennis.
I talked to the AOPA as to what to make available for anyone "If Requested" as under this new regulation, you can keep the information on paper or electronically. They said, ONLY provide the check list and doctor data / signature form if you are required to produce it. So I have a full electron file and a full print out, but I also have a print out of just those sheets and a copy of my Medical Self Assessment certificate available when I need to provided it, Ramp check etc. I do have the pocket card in my wallet.
Yesterday I did have to produce it, because there is a plane locally that I wanted to be able to rent so I went for a rental check out and when they wanted to photocopy my license, they also wanted my medical. There were OK with BasicMed having already checked it out with their insurance carrier so I gave them a copy of the above and they were fine with it.
Both insurance carriers that I use were fine with the BasicMed and only wanted the date that it was effective.
