Re: Light Sport

Here's a dumb question and I should know the answer. Can you actually get all your LS training in an Aeronca or J-3, etc? I assume the answer is "yes" but I've never researched it. Mike, Yes you can. I flew an L2M for a few hours and my Champ for most of my dual instruction, solo and check ride. Di...

Re: Aeronca's and LSA weight

Paul, I visited with Earl Downs, the LSA guru, about this today. He said that a sport pilot operating a type certificated airplane under the sport pilot rules, that the airplane has to have continually been operated at it's certificated weight and that weight needs to be under the 1320 lb. limit as ...

Also, the chord line on a 4412 airfoil is not the bottom of the airfoil.

Guys, Chris's Chief and my Champ both have 74-44 metal props, his is a Sensenich, mine is a McCauley. Both A65-8s, his has less time since overhaul. My empty wt. is 785#, don't know what his is. His Chief is a tad faster, my Champ will out climb his. Visability is better in the Champ. The tail tends...

Joe,

Thanks. The Chief guy here in Ponca is Chris Hiatt. Both our airplanes are pictured here in the member's airplane photos.

I'm going to try and see if I can make Middletown in June, if I can, I'll see if I can drag him along.

Howdy, This isn't as old as the other photos, but this is my dad and an original design airplane he built in 1956. It's still on the registry, in Michigan. I've tried to contact the current owner for current photos and info to no avail. Scott http://i187.photobucket.com/albums/x129/srower/Aero-Bipe/...

The Champ is mine, N81555, the Chief, N85849, is Chris Hiatt's at the Clinton, OK fly-in earlier this summer.

drjeff,

Congratulations on your purchase, looks good. I had to do the same thing, Virginia to Oklahoma, when I bought my Champ a year and a half ago. Had a blast then and it hasn't stopped yet. Happy New Year.
