Re: spark plugs ??

I'm back working on my 0-145. I have now gapped the plugs to .025 in hopes of getting an easier start. (my old book says .025 gap for unshielded plugs) Sure wish I could find proper mags with a impulse coupler. I now have Bendix Suitcase mags SFR-4 and it seems that impulse couplers are not availabl...

Re: spark plugs ??

Ohio is a long way from California. I am currently interested in a Piper Arrow with the 200 HP engine. Have one located in Arizona however there is another buyer, you know how that goes. Rod

Re: spark plugs ??

The filter is attached to the mags. Spruce has them. FAA approved! 52 bucks a peice. My Comanche was hit by a CAR last week so I am busy with insurance at the time. I am trying to buy a PA-28-200 Arrow to replace it. My son is also having a baby, my first boy, I have 6 grand girls, so you can see I ...

Re: spark plugs ??

Just found FAA approved mag filters that claim to eliminate ignition noise?? Any knowledge of these filters actually eliminating ignition noise--I have known of filters such as these working on cars with coils and distributors that eliminate ignition noise on AM radios. Rod

Re: spark plugs ??

Paul, hate to sound dumb at this point but I don't understand the "only ground the mag at one end" in your post.**As in: R mag and L mag shielded wire to mag (Both-L-R-off) switch then one single shielded wire to grd? I am presently using a hand held KX-99 for comm, I can almost tell the RPM.s from ...

Re: spark plugs ??

Just spoke with Fresno Air Parts. They do have the shielded spark plug cups. $47.50 plus per cup. They require a 1 3/8 " space between the cooling fins around the spark plug--not sure if this will work on the 0-145 Lyc but will measure to make certain. Other suggestion was to move antennae farther a...

Re: spark plugs ??

Had my Bendix mags done by SAVAGE MAGS, came back looking like new. I have 3 1/2 inches from the spark plug hole to the cowling. I am trying to get a shielded spark plug and connecting harness into this space with out rubbing or "grounding out" on the cowling. I just don't want to cut a hole or form...

Re: spark plugs ??

Paul. just sold an Ercoupe with the plug shielding you are referring to, that is where I got the idea. I will contact Fresno Air Parts tomorrow. Thanks for the input! The Ol' Lyc just keeps purring but sure puts out a lot of static. Rod

Wow, thanks guys, this is too much for me to digest at this time of night. I will try again tomorrow. Re: spark plugs ??

I have been using the "short" original unshielded spark plugs that fit nicely under the hood of my '41 chief powered by 0-145 Lyc. I would like to shield these plugs without going to the new type shielded plugs that donot fit under the "hood". Does any one happen to have a set of the "shields" I hav...
