Re: A sad day in the Aeronca world

Sounds like those of us who didn't get to know them really missed out. I've lost quite a few people in my life in the last few years and the ones that were healthy and lost to a tragedy are always the hardest to understand. You just get a call one day and it's over. Joe, though I didn't know them, i...

Re: Coast to Coast flight in my Champ, come join me!

Thanks for sharing the great story Dick. Sounds like a great adventure. I hope to take some nice long flights soon myself. You're links aren't working, so I'll put them here. For those that haven't taken the time to check it out yet, it's worth the read! http://areoncachamp.blogspot.com/ http://shar...

Central Texas Taylorcraft Fly-In

Well, I was the only Aeronca that crashed the Taylorcraft party!! I flew to Fort Parker, Texas this weekend for a great event. Re: Aeronciation

Thanks. I'm not an Aeronca expert, so I wouldn't begin to argue that it's the right shape. He, however, didn't say it was the wrong shape. He said it was backwards and it's not! Jack, thanks for the photos and the nice story. But, that trim tab is the wrong shape and it's not the photos. Of course m...

Re: Aeronciation

You're quite welcome Matt. While Travis did get the tailwheel bug, he just bought a fully restored Luscombe! The Chief is much more comfortable side-by-side, but the Luscombe sure is a pretty little plane. Sadie is my friend's lab and she always like to be around us when we go flying. Likes to pose ...

Aeronciation

My friend is learning how to fly FW in a Champ. I flew him to his lesson in the Chief. Here's the story: http://flynlow.blogspot.com/2012/03/aer ... ekend.html

Re: Glass Panel Chief?

This actually fit very nicely. I didn't want to obstruct instruments or my view and it came out pretty well. The yoke barely clears though, so the passenger would have difficulty flying. I will probably only use it on long trips or when flying solo.

Glass Panel Chief?

I spent some time figuring out how to mount my iPad in the Chief without losing any of the already limited visibility. I think I accomplished it! Here's the rest of the story: http://flynlow.blogspot.com/2012/01/saturday-at-kittie-hill.html I used RAM Mount: RAM-B-121-AP8U http://www.amazon.com/RAM-...

Re: Oil filler door

Somebody help! I flew the Chief yesterday and she flew fine, but there's a big hole in the side! I bet I walked 5 miles looking for the door, but no luck. Where can we find one?

Re: New Medical Option

I only know one guy who flies one and he loves it. It has autopilot! I'm glad Cessna is back in the training market, but I love flying the old birds. I'll have to go up in it one day just to see what it's like. The Local FBO School at Lincoln Park, New Jersey got a Skycatcher and a solo student boun...

Re: New Medical Option

I agree they're way too expensive. The Skycatcher was just increased to $149,000. Pipistrel says they will soon offer an affordable $83,000 trainer! Before I would spend $83,000 on a new LSA, I would spend half of that for a fully restored Luscombe! That's just me though. I've seen a few schools sta...

Re: New Medical Option

I don't see where anyone mentioned it, but there's a big reason I don't think this will happen. The LSA industry is already fighting this proposal. They've spent millions of dollars designing airplanes that fit the LSA requirements and this would impact them greatly. The people who went to LSA becau...

Re: trouble with advancing throttle

Dan, I recently went through something similar. It was rough just off of idle, then would smooth out after that. It would happen on the ground, but started in flight. Phil and I took the carb off and took it to the A&P. He said it was pretty dirty and cleaned it. Also, the rubber tip on the needle w...
